- Avira's suite is almost unchanged from the previous edition. As with most modern suites, Avira's main window offers a status overview plus quick access to important tools. Avira's creators didn't opt for a "Fix it" button that corrects all problems at once, but, if there's a problem in any area, the corresponding icon will change to yellow or red.
The program's basic configuration screen lets you set a minor handful of options for the on-demand scanner, real-time malware guard, firewall, and backup system. Switching to Expert mode gives you full access to program configuration (in practice, I found that almost everything I needed to do required switching to Expert mode). Some features, like antispam and parental control, aren't visible anywhere except in Expert mode configuration. Given that they're turned off by default, you could completely miss the fact that the suite includes these components. Even though not all users need these features, hiding them is a bad idea.
New in this edition is a small WebLoader application that manages the product's installation. Once the customer chooses a language for installation, the WebLoader downloads the very latest system modules and definitions, ensuring an up-to-date installation. Avira's installer used to launch a whole collection of configuration dialogs after completing the product installation.
